Our Commitment

Mountaineer Business Network is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology. We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, and we treat accessibility as an ongoing part of how this site is built and maintained — not a one-time fix.

Measures We've Taken

This site recently completed a full accessibility review. Steps taken include:

• A "Skip to main content" link at the very start of every page for keyboard and screen-reader users
• Visible keyboard focus indicators on all links, buttons, and interactive controls
• A mobile menu that correctly announces its open/closed state (aria-expanded) and can be closed with the Escape key
• One clear, descriptive <h1> per page, with headings that follow a logical order beneath it
• Meaningful, descriptive alternative text on informational images
• Text and interactive-element color contrast checked against WCAG 2.2 AA thresholds, with corrections made where needed
• Navigation states (such as the current page) indicated by more than color alone
• Descriptive, unique link text throughout — avoiding vague labels like "click here"
• Larger, better-spaced touch targets for navigation and footer links
• Support for prefers-reduced-motion, so people who have asked their device to limit motion get instant scrolling and minimal transitions
• Semantic HTML landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and a declared page language on every page
• External links that open in a new window are identified for screen-reader users, and use rel="noopener" for safe, predictable behavior
• A responsive layout that avoids horizontal scrolling on mobile devices and remains usable at 200% browser zoom

Known Limitations

We believe in being upfront about where we haven't fully arrived yet:

• A small number of older content blocks on this site were migrated from a previous content system and use inline styling rather than our current shared design system. We've reviewed these for contrast and structure, but they may not be fully consistent with newer pages.
• Live regional hub websites linked from this site (for example, the Tygart Valley, My Kanawha Valley, New River Valley, and My Ohio Valley platforms) are operated separately and are outside our direct control. We can't guarantee they meet the same accessibility standard as this site.
• We test primarily with current versions of major browsers and screen readers. If you use assistive technology we haven't tested against, please let us know.

We review and address accessibility issues on an ongoing basis as they're identified.
